      Express whatever you had in step 1,
      three times                     
(because this 3 is being multiplied by the bracket)
Step3 :
      Simplify

Step 1:
           Use Alge-Tiles to represent the
           equation.
Step 2:
           To isolate the x-tiles, Use an 
           appropriate number of negative
           (red) ones tiles  


Step 3:
           Interpret your tiles. Write the value of x.

                           X=4

            Use Alge-Tiles to solve.
Step 2:
            Use a flow chart to solve.
Step 3:
            Check your solution.

Step 1:
            2x-3=1
     ·         Isolate the x-terms
     ·         Keep the equation balanced
     ·         Remove zero pairs
     ·         Simplify
Step 2:
             2x-3=1
      Start with x à multiply by 2 – Subtract 3àresult is 1
GO BACK WARDS DOING THE OPPOSITE!
      Start with 1à add 3àdivide 2àx=2
 Step 3:
            Check your solution by substituting it back into the equation.
 Left Side (L.S)                                 Right Side (R.S)
= 2x – 3                                            = 1
=2(2) – 3
= 4 – 3
=1                                L.S=R.S   


Algebraic word Problems

Ex.
     Ms. Akber is 5 years older than Jared. Find an expression for each of their ages.

There are two ways we can do this:
1. Express Ms, Akber’s age in thermos of Jared’s age.
2. Express Jared’s age in terms of Ms. Akber’s age.
