Adding Integers
· When adding same sign we add their absolute values and give result the same sign.
· When adding opposite sign, we take their absolute values,
subtract the smaller from the larger, and give the result the sing of the integer with the largest value.
Ex. 8+ (-3)
=8-3
=5
Subtracting Integers
Step 1.Change the subtraction sign into an addition sign.
Step 2.Change the sing in front of the second number.
Ex1. (+2) – (+3) = -1 (+2) + (-3) = -1
Multiplying Integers
+ x + = +
- x - = +
+ x - = -
- x + = -
Ex1. (+4) (+3) = +12 Ex2. (+2) (-3) = -6
Dividing Integers
Same thing as multiplying integers but you divide instead of multiplying
+ / + = +
- / - = +
+ / - = -
- / + = -
Ex1. (+4) / (+2) = +2 Ex2. (-4) / (+2) = -2
